QPR Gatekeeper Training - HP014

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer. Three simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide, its symptoms and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.

QPR is a simple educational program that teaches ordinary citizens how to recognize a mental health emergency and how to get a person at risk the help he or she needs. It is also an action plan that can result in lives saved.

At this seminar you will learn: how to get help for yourself or learn more about preventing suicide, the common causes of suicidal behavior, the warning signs of suicide, how to Question, Persuade and Refer someone who may be suicidal, how to get help for someone in crisis, and gain familiarity with referral resources both on and off campus.

Please note that this session is for UBC staff, faculty and postdocs.
