Lighten Up Your Day - HP244

Please note: This session is taking place at UBC Robson Square.

Injecting humour both at work and life in general is great for your overall wellbeing. Laughing does not just feel good, it also has a positive effect on your health by helping to relieve stress, tension, and anxiety and by increasing your heart rate and blood circulation. Humour also offers far-reaching psychological benefits, as finding the lighter side of a difficult situation can instantly dispel negativity and better enable you to overcome challenging problems and conflicts.

This seminar will highlight the benefits of adding humour into participants' lives and discuss appropriate ways of incorporating it into the workplace.

The facilitator of the session will be provided by UBC's Employee and Family Assistance Program provider, Morneau Shepell. This free workshop is available to all UBC staff and faculty.

By the end of the session, you will be able to:

  • Understand your sense of humour;
  • Recognize the physical and psychological benefits of humour; and
  • Develop techniques to professionally communicate using humour.
