Thrive 2015: Lighten Up Your Day - HP175

Injecting humour both at work and in your personal life is just what the doctor ordered. Laughing does not just feel good, it also has a positive effect on your health by helping to relieve stress, tension, and anxiety and by increasing your heart rate and blood circulation. Humour also offers far-reaching psychological benefits, as finding the lighter side of a difficult situation can instantly dispel negativity and better enable you to overcome challenging problems and conflicts.

This lunch and learn will highlight the benefits of adding humour into your life and discuss appropriate ways of incorporating it into the workplace. The facilitator of the session will be provided by UBC's Employee and Family Assistance Program provider, Shepell.

By the end of the session, you will be able to:

  • Understand your sense of humour;
  • Recognize the physical and psychological benefits of humour; and
  • Develop techniques to professionally communicate using humour.

  • Please note: This workshop is being offered as part of Thrive.

    Thrive is a mindset and a week-long series of events focused on building positive mental health for everyone at UBC.

    Thrive Week is November 2 - 6, 2015
